This third section of the conversation is a meaningful dive into decisions, self-trust, and what it means to become someone. There is an engaging trail of thought answering questions we were trying to understand ourselves.
It is compelling to listen to Brandon speak with such depth of thought. There are helpful quotes here that I trust will help you reflect on your path.

What Are You Most Proud Of?
One question from the conversation stayed with me more than the others.
“What are you most proud of?”
“I am most proud of the person I am right now.” - Brandon Pattillo
What a captivating quote — one that I consider of meaningful value to my life.
In life, we go through many phases. Ups and downs challenge us, place us in difficult situations, and sometimes we emerge victorious. Yet often, we give ourselves more value for what we have achieved than for what we have become.
What makes being proud of who you have become more meaningful than being proud of what you have achieved?
Studying or pursuing an education to obtain the diploma was never the true end goal. It is not the deepest meaning — only the material outcome. The meaningful part is the person you become in the process.
I believe this is more meaningful because it remains with us for life, whereas achievements are temporary.
I read this quote from Marcus Aurelius:
“You could be good today, instead you choose tomorrow.”
It can be applied here in that, in the pursuit of achievement, we sometimes delay our sense of meaning and pride until the moment of completion. That is natural and valuable too — it signifies that a path has been finished.
But there may be deeper meaning in recognizing the person you have become through the process — the person you are today.
Meaningfulness
If you read or listened to the conversation, you may have noticed the repetition of the word: meaningful.
After listening to Brandon, this word stands out in his vocabulary, partly because of research he is developing related to sleep and dreams.
I asked him what makes something meaningful.
Attitude — Interpretation
Meaning can be something we choose.
He shared the story of a mailman. For that person, delivering communication to people can be deeply meaningful, a way to serve others and support his family. For someone else, that same career might not feel meaningful at all.
Meaning, then, is shaped by how we interpret events, careers, and experiences — with faith also playing a role.
Closing
Perhaps pride is not meant to live in trophies or milestones, but in character. Achievements pass, but the person formed through effort remains — and learning to trust that person may be one of life’s most meaningful decisions.
